   Avast! is a good choice for home users for virus protection. For spyware protection, SpyBot Search & Destroy is a good decision as well.

   I promise you that this will be the best free anti-virus program out there. Its called Avast, it downloads free updates so your computer is always safe, I’ll give you the link so you can download it and give it a go.

   I would say AVG for a virus protection program, SpyBot S&D for one spyware tool, another is Ad-Aware SE, CCleaner, and finally for spyware SpywareBlaster. I would recommend getting them all, and you can do so from http://www.download.com

   I would have to say get Avast! Antivirus Home Edition as well. Per some of the recently antivirus comparatives (2008) its detection is around 96%, and some have it above 99%. It’s light on resources and you really don’t know it is on your computer until a virus/trojan is found and then it will literally tell you that you are infected! For antispyware, try SuperAntispyware Free Edition. It is a great antispyware program w/ regular definition updates and should keep your pc spyware-free.

   I used to recommend AVG, but Avast! at this point seems to be a better program.

   Another good antivirus program is Antivir Classic Edition, it has very high detection rates and has scheduled scans unlike Avast!. This is an alternative to Avast! and AVG.

   most virus are spread through IE. IE is not a safe browser. you should use a more secure browser to protect your PC from virus.

   i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can block any any popup and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE browser. as you know, most of virus spread throught internet and webpage.

   besides, firefox is much smaller than IE, so it run faster than IE.
