Does anyone know the best free anti-virus to download that also has anti-spyware protection? It is Zone alarm?

Does anyone know the best free anti-virus available to download that also has free anti-spy ware? I am on a fixed income and I currently pay $5.00 per month for a service from Verizon but someone told me Zone Alarm would be as good and it carries both virus and spy ware protection and it is free. Does anyone out there use this or know about this? My os is windows 2000. Thank you.

Here is a very good Antivirus program that I highly recomend and it is FREE and so do others here. Click on the link to download. (http:free.grisoft.com) this is AVG. And here is a link that you can click on to download a FREE Spyware program , and it is one of the best free programs that is out today. (http://www.superantispyware.com) These programs work very good and is reliable also. Zone Alarm is a blocking program, it watches your IP and ports , it is not an antivirus or spyware program. Just download the above programs as I am sure that you will be glade that you did. Good Luck

The free version of ZoneAlarm is a firewall only. Yes, you need a firewall but a firewall is just that, a firewall, which is NOT an anti-virus. So , go ahead and download ZA, you need it, but is one piece of a total security program.

There are 3 major and free anti-virus programs…AVG, Avria Anti-vir, and Avast. The ONLY one of these freebies that includes integrated anti-spyware protection is Avast (ver 4.8). The free versions of AVG and Avria do NOT. Available from http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

Please be aware that you must totally un-install the Verizon security suite before installing ANY new anti-virus app. Failure to do so can cause serious conflicts and leave you with less protection, not more.

ZA and Avast will give you decent protection.

BTW, the free version of AVG has poor virus detection rates.

“Yes, this is good. After using a registry cleaner you’re going to need spyware protection to get rid of the main source of registry errors which is… spyware. Just to be on the safe side, run this program after you run your registry cleaner. It will help out immensely preventing future registry errors.

I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from http://www.download.com/ I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps
