What is the difference between an anti-virus and internet security software?

If there is please explain. Also what software program would be the best for both. I’ve tried Norton Anti-virus in the past but I guess it never suited me. Recommendations based on experience would be helpful.

Anti-virus is anti-virus software that once a virus id detected it will delete it.
internet security has anti-virus, anti-spam, firewall, and anit-spyware, and many more included in it.

I would recommend Norton 360, the 2010 version because it is complete with everything you need plus many more things

Internet security software or internet security suite, usually includes anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewall, anti-spam and sometimes HIPS and sometimes a online backup function to back-up your important data.

An anti-virus is, as the name implies, just a simple anti-virus, although most of todays anti-virus will also include at least some anti-spyware capability.

There are no free Internet Security Suites….Eset Smart Security is a good “paid” solution.

Myself I have always used freeware…I’m cheap…but using the freebies I have not had a computer infection since Blaster Worm….in 2003!

    My recommendations:

    1. For the typical home user of XP or Vista or “7”, Windows (built-in) Firewall is adequate, even more so if one is using a router, which is a very good firewall in itself. Make sure your Windows Firewall is turned “on”.

    2. For your Anti-Virus……I would suggest Avast. Avast now includes anti-virus, anti-spyware capability and anti-rootkit components. And all for the low low price of free. You can get it here:
    http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download

(Always use only 1 A-V…You must NEVER use more than one anti-virus, Even an expired anti-virus can cause a major conflict…did I mention that you MUST uninstall any and all, old anti-virus products?)

    3. For your Anti-Adware and Anti-Spyware needs…
    SUPERAntiSpyware:
    http://www.superantispyware.com/
Scan with SUPER on a regular basis.

    They have a free version.

If you want it simple without needing to install a number of other software beside anti-virus, go for either Norton Internet Security or 360. I’ve noticed that the performance improved significantly over previous version – meaning it won’t bog down your computer as much.

If you want to keep it fairly simple and for free, try :
    1) ClamWin antivirus — use often. scan on demand on any file you download (.EXE .ZIP etc.)
    2) use either Vista/Win7 or Comodo (software firewall) — use often
    3) a hardware router (hardware firewall) — usually set and forget
    4) submit file or link (to download file) to virustotal.com — on demand basis
    5) Spybot Search and Destroy — every once in a while (ie. 1/mo)

Anti-virus is a software that deletes a virus once detected to enter your computer.
an internet security is a software that secures or protect your computer from virus, spamwares, malwares, worms; etc. it has a built-in firewall also to protect from incoming trojans or delete trojans.
there are plenty on the net that are free to use, but if you can afford to purchase one, better purchase rather then depending on the trial and free ones. with the paid ones, you are up-to-date for updates and can complain if you aren’t well protected. i’m using Norton 360 in one of my computers. it does all.

In general, Internet security software is a more sophisticated set of applications that not only protect you from virus attacks, but also deliver protection from hackers (firewall), spyware, Trojan horses and rootkits. Some Internet security packages also give you online passwords management, anti-spam and more. Basic antivirus protection rarely include this set of features.

Well, it not hard to figure out. In short, the internet security is directly ralated with the Internet, and the anti-virus with PC.
