What is the best anti-virus & spyware programme avalible at a reasonable price?

Your opinions and experiences please.
Thanks.
I already use AVG and Super Anti Spyware.
I’m just looking to see if there is anything better.
Thank you to those who have answered so far!

    AVG is free.

McAffee came on a trial basis with my laptop, after I read it was a memory hogger, I uninstalled it and installed AVG, straight away there was an improvement in the performance.

AVG doesn’t recognise most rare virus’s, it’s better to get one which you pay a bit of money for, you know it’s truthworthy then.
I use Antivirus 2009, and I’ve never had a virus since I started using it. The price was 50$ when I got it, but you can probably find it for less elsewhere. Good Luck!

You don’t really have to pay for anything to get realtime protection. There’s the free and very effective Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware. If you are not happy with the very simple control panel of MSE then there’s Avast. It has a free version too.

However, if you really want to be serious in getting rid of virus and other sorts of malware then you can get Kaspersky or Norton.

By the way, Norton is no longer a resource hog. They have already fixed and made a major change last year. The top contender in the resource hog category right now is McAfee. Here’s a good reference and guide in choosing an excellent AV solution:

I have Kaspersky on my desktop and MSE on my netbook.

    Microsoft security essentials

    download it here:

    http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

it catches a lot of threats it is very light so it doesn’t use up all the space on your computer, it works in the background so it wont have to ask you to scan it just scans and if you have a threat you can remove it, if your away from your computer and a threat appears, Microsoft security essentials will remove it automatically. And best of all it is from Microsoft!

Kaspersky is best antivirus and spyware program. It protects your computer against viruses, worms, spyware, adware and trojans. Its fast, smart and won’t slow down PC.

i am not impressed with avg –it is popular junk ware
if you have to use freeware -before warned it has very limited protection
even supersantispyware ( which is on sale now for 9.98 -full version
avira or avast is better than avg
    paid
    here are my top three
    G Data internet 2011 25 bucks
kaspersky internet security –price depends if one comp or three
    eset or nod32
all these do need malware program back-ups
malwarebytes –even at 30 bucks is a bargin to get real time protection
or if you are serious like me —-i use
a virtual machine for my home network ( 5 comps )

    http://VMware.com
    or
    http://www.returnil.com
these need to have a reinstall of your OS ( a clean n virgin one ) before it connects to the wire –it takes a snap shot of the install —which allows you to go anywhere –when you are done you go to that snap-shoot-
all is destroyed –so there is no need to have an av program

look here for a youtube review video on both

Just personal opinion of course. I use Avast , I have also got superantispyware and Malwarebytes. I recently changed to Comodo firewall which seems fine and I seem to boot up quicker. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans Hackers etc. I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly.

Check these videos out on Prevention and detection tests for different Security Product

Its all about the UNKNOWN not about the known threats these days so you have to be very carefull on what you chose
None of the free antivirus or Security suites on the interenet except COMODO that can Protect you against zero day or unknown threats
By zero day or unknown threats I mean those virues or trojans or any other form of viral threat that are so new that there is no signature for it and so they cant be detected
and most of the Security products today that depend only on Signatures or even Heuristics are a Big FIAL against these Unknown threats
Products that have some sort of protection against zero day threats are
1: Kasperky 2010 uses Hips and Sandbox
2: Norton 2010 uses SONAR 3 there behaviour blocker the only one out there that really works
3:Comodo 4 uses Defense+ as HIPS and a Sandbox and above all its free
Watch the reviews and See these Products in action against zero day malware and choose for yourself.

Those 2 that you have are fine. I would add 1 or 2 more anti-spyware programs from these free ones:
    ♠ Ad-Aware http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php
    ♠ Spybot Search & Destroy http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
♠ Windows Defender http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx ◄─ if you have Vista or Windows 7, you already have this one
    ♠ Malwarebytes http://www.malwarebytes.org/index.php
    ♠ a-squared http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free
Always update before running a scan.
I’ve used them all for years.

WARNING: Stay away from Antivirus 2009 that someone posted. It’s a fraud program:
