Your cache saves web page data so it will load quicker when you come back to it. It gets full and thats why you empty it. It wont delete your bookmarks.

Web caches can be deployed in a variety of ways. User agent caches, such as those in web browsers, are private caches, operating on behalf of a single user. Intermediaries can also implement shared caches that serve more than one person.

Proxy caches, also known as forward proxy caches, are usually deployed by internet service providers, schools and corporations to save bandwidth. Interception proxy caches (sometimes called “transparent caches”) are a variant that doesn’t require clients to be explicitly configured to use them.

Gateway caches, sometimes known as reverse proxy caches, surrogate caches, or web accelerators, operate on behalf of the origin server, and to clients are indistinguishable from it. A number of gateway caches can work together to implement a Content Delivery Network.

Intermediaries that cache often perform other duties, such as user authentication and content filtering. Multiple caches can also be coordinated using peering protocols like Internet Cache Protocol and HTCP.

    Hello,

(ANS) No.1 THE INTERNET CACHE is a space created by the web browser program on the hard disk drive which acts as a temporary holding place (the cache is just a number of special files). The cache is the location into which web pages are downloaded & stored as you view them. These pages are made up of many different page elements which can be many many small files such as image .gif’s or JPEG images or HTML coded files, or scripts like jave etc.

No.2 The reason that its vitally important to wipe the web browser cache at the end of each surfing session is that if a virus or other parasite has been downloaded without your knowing it. Then it has the potential to escape the cache & infect the rest of your computer. Many many viruses, worms, spyware, malware & Torjans get into internet connected computers via this route. So cleaning the web cache each time is a way to protect your system from infection.

No.3 Cleaning the cache also protects your privacy from tracking cookies which also get silently downloaded when you view any website.

No.4 NOTE:- Windows has several caches not just the most obvious ones inside the web browser, there are a number of special files called “INDEX.DAT” and these cannot be opened by the user, in fact these files are locked normally (you cannot view the contents) and they hold a part of the users history and so also need cleariing out. CCleaner will and does unlock the index.dat files and thus it can clear them and again this helps protect your privacy by wiping the audit trail off the machine.

No.5 Most of the latest web browsers do in fact have settings to clear the cache on session closure, certainly Firefox & Opera do. I’m less sure IE8 does.

No.6 Using CCleaner will NOT damage or remove your bookmarks at all, its completely safe from that point of view. I use CCleaner myself its a part of my strategy to keep my system free from infections.

    Hope that helps?

    Kind Regards Ivan
