If you deleted it instead of uninstalling it, the registry entries have been left behind and these are what is causing it to seem like Avira is still there. You can get rid of these by reinstalling Avira and then uninstalling it properly by using Add/Remove in the Control Panel or use Ccleaner to clean the registry.

Download and install Ccleaner (with or without Yahoo toolbar – your choice) and then when you open it, click the Registry button. Scan for issues and fix and keep doing this until no issues are found. I suggest you accept the offer to backup before fixing although I’ve never needed my backups yet.

After one or both of these methods (use Ccleaner if you reinstall/uninstall and it still claims you have Avira) you shouldn’t get this message anymore.

No, Spybot is for spyware, not viruses. You need software to cover all situations so if you want a guide to what to do, use this link:

    Look on your Control Panel

    Press: Start
    click on: Control Panel
click on: Add or Remove Programs

then just have a look at what has been downloaded onto your computer.

Or you could just look on your: Start.
    click on: All Programs

and you should be able to see what you have on your computer. i.e.
    Spy bot
    Search and Destroy
    Superanti Spyware

Well, click on the tab,or go to add or remove programs. there should be your anti virus. or, go to c/program files/ your anti virus folder. Or, start/all programs/ there should be your anti virus. or, download an anti virus uninstaller program.
