Can an anti-virus set for automatic scans actually scan when your computer is turned off?

I have AVG Anti-Virus and it does automatic scans. I set the scans for 4am because they mess up whatever I working on and slow my computer to almost a full stop until completed. Does the scan work when my computer is turned off for the night?

Obviously not! It cant scan if the PC is turned off. But usually an anti virus (i am not quite sure about AVG though) does a missed scheduled scan once the PC is switched on.
My suggestion would be that you should schedule the full system scans once a week at such a time when the PC is on but you don’t have any work. Also, keep the ‘autoprotect’ feature enabled.

No definitely not, the computer would need to be turned on to be able to run the software. The only thing the computer can do when turned off is keep track of the time.
