What is the best anti virus software out there?

Just ordered a new computer as my old one was outdated and riddled with viruses. I want to get new anti virus software before my new pc arrives. Can anybody advise what is the best out there at the moment?

I had Norton before which seemed to slow my pc down massively. I’m also not really interested in free ones, don’t trust them.

Cheers

AVG, its free but about the best software you can get, lots of people will say the same, why spend £30+ on virus software thats free to update like AVG!

NOD32. Its the best in my opinion. For example, i had Norton for 2 years and ocassionally a virus would be stopped, and all would be ‘fine’, but i switch to NOD32 on the word of a friend. As soon as it was installed it found 12 major virus’ and countless spyware. Norton is balls, NOD32 is the best.

Nothng wrong with free ones mate. They actually work a lot better than most of the paid for ones.

Avast anti virus is excellent – http://www.avast.com/

Works really well with Vista – no problems – have had it on my PC for about 7months now (from AVG) and it has picked up everything dodgy without fail.

Don’t pay if you don’t have to – Avast updates almost everyday and works

Norton is good, but is prone to the occasional corruption – if it starts slowing your computer down, re-install it.

You are mad not to trust free ones – AVG is one of the best. They only offer it free to try and get you to buy the whole suite of security software.

One final piece of advice – concentrate more on the Firewall. This will stop virus and other stuff even reaching your computer, many people with firewalls never need to run anti-virus scans (including my IT boyfriend). Zone Alarm from Zone Labs is a good one (free again) – as used by IBM!

KASPERSKY …IS RATED NUMBER 1 … IN TECH REVIEWS …ALSO NOD32 ….I USE A FREE ANTI/VIRUS WITH A 96% DETECTION RATE HAVE BEEN USING FOR YEARS NOW IS THE BEST FOR ME ALONG WITH FIREFOX …. BUT U DON’T TRUST FREE ANTI/ SO I WONT WASTE YOUR TIME TELLING WHAT IT IS………..

AVG is really good! It may be free (and you dont trust free ones) but it is definiatly one of the best!

I have been using it for around, 5 or 6 months and it does not slow your computer down, it searches for and deletes Virus’s, Trojans…etc.

Also with the new version of AVG you can set it to start a scheduled scan at a certian time each day, and you dont need to worry about your computer slowing down everytime it scans.

I think AVG is the best antivirus out there! (and its free)

    hope this helps!

Norton is a very space hungry program and will slow your system down considerably. My advice comes in the shape of Avira Antivir. The personal one is free but very good and the professional one that you must pay for also comes with anti spyware and firewall.

    ESET NOD32 beyond a doubt.

Just check out the reviews. Nod finds about 98%-99% of threats, AVG only 88%.

Norton, your new computer should be able to handle it.

now the question is do you want to pay or not . if your answer is no then try avast

if you are ready to pay then here si the list
1.kaspersky ( good for every one) — download this
    2. bit defender (best one if you can get it updated atleast once a week)

both require atleast 1 GB of ram but kaspersky works fine even with 512 mb
