Please please get rid of Norton. It is resource hogging and useless.
Avast Home editon from http://www.avast.com and Comodo firewall from http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com will do the job much better.
You made a good choice with Firefox though.

I like Macafee. I have had no problems with them in the years I have been using it.
Costco tends to have a good price (if you are in the US).
Just make sure that when and if you switch, you delete all files related to the old program you were using… a complete uninstall.
Good luck!

In addition to a firewall you must have full time (active) virus protection and full time spyware protection. Use the following instead of Norton.
All the following programs are free.
———————————————
Windows XP Firewall uses the least resources
———————————————————-
Full Time (Active) Virus Protection
If you do not have active virus protection, install only one. All are excellent. Try AVG first; If you do not like it uninstall and try another one.

Install the following five programs and run weekly or at least monthly. You need all five. They will greatly increase your protection. They are not a substitute for full time spyware and virus protection.

I recommend AVG Antivirus free edition. Also install a spyware programs. Again AVG Antispyware is great and also Spybot S&D, Ad Aware Personal Edition. They are all free and say goodbye to Norton. For firewall you can try Comodo Personal Firewall. Its again free.
