How can I increase my blog’s SERP position ?

A search engine results page, or simply known as SERP is a measurement used to determine how well a website ranks when a person searches a term related to the website’s content using search engines like Google and Yahoo. Meaning, your blog should be at the top or as close to the top of the search engine results as possible. If you increase the SERP of your blog or website, you would also increase the popularity of your blog. This may be a bit challenging, but the traffic and increased readership would all be worth it.

The first thing you can do is to submit your blog to various blogging directories and other free directories found online. With just a simple search using the term “web site directories”, you’ll be faced with a long list of directories you can submit your site into.

Another thing you can do to increase SERP is to write articles and spread them in various article directories. This would work by placing a link to your blog after the article or in the “Author” section provided by the directory. If you don’t have time to submit your links to directories, but you actively participate in forums, you can place a link of your blog in your signature or forum footers. However, if you are not a member of any forums, you start contributing content to forums related to the subject of your blog and become an active member. Make sure to write relevant posts on the forum, so that people can see you as an expert and would want to visit your blog.

You can also search for other blogs or websites that have similar topics to your blog and make constructive comments to various posts. Don’t forget to place a link back to your blog within your comments, so readers can be directed to your blog.

Be aware that you shouldn’t submit your blog to over 50 directories each month. Some search engines may deem this process as spamming and get you flagged, leaving you with a lower SERP than what you’ve started. Never flood or spam the forums or other blogs with tactless advertisements for your blog; it would only get you banned. In addition, don’t be tempted to use black hat techniques in redirecting or hiding links to different websites or blogs just to improve your blog’s SERP. As long as you keep your blog updated and you provide your readers with informative, entertaining or relevant posts, your blog would increase SERP in time.
