No. You wouldn’t use a sieve (windows defender) if you had a saucepan (proper anti virus)

windows defender all includes antimalware support – so if you remove this make sure you install another such as spyware doctor –

Windows defender isn’t exactly an anti-virus program like the others. Its sort of the standard defense mechanism within windows itself, it recognizes other anti-viruses and works with them. In any case, I don’t think you can delete it. Its a windows feature. Plus it detects malware than most anti-viruses ignore, so you don’t want to uninstall it.
The problem you are worried about occurs only when you actually INSTALL two different anti-viruses. WIndows defender doesn’t count.

Windows defender is an antispyware program, not an antivirus program.
You don’t really need to have windows defender running if you have antivirus program, unless if you have an antivirus program that only protects you from viruses, like pc tools antivirus.
You only have to make sure that your antivirus software also provide protection against spyware, if you don’t want windows defender running, right now most antivirus software do protect you against spyware.
If you have windows xp sp2, then you can uninstall windows defender.
If you have windows vista or windows 7, windows defender cannot be uninstalled, you can only disable it, since windows defender is being intergrated as part of windows vista and windows 7.

Windows Defender is an antispyware/antimalware. I look at it more like a defensive antimalware because it’s not really a malware remover, but it does a great job preventing it.

If you only have an antivirus, you should keep it because Windows Defender has real time protection which will prevent unauthorized changes to your system’s settings. However, if you have an internet security suit like Kaspersky Internet Security or Norton Internet Security, then you can disable it or uninstall it.

But honestly, unless you have a really sensitive antispyware like Spyware Doctor. I doubt that Windows Defender will cause problems for you. Actually, if you install a really picky security software like Panda for example, in the install it will tell you to disable or uninstall Windows Defender.

I can’t really tell if you have a ”proper security suit” because you didn’t mention what you’re using. But my advice is to keep Windows Defender running.

    Surely Not
And Windows Defender automatically closes down itself on detection of AV program installed on Computer.
And it activates when AV program is uninstalled from computer
