Can you recommend another great, free alternative Anti-Virus Suite to AVG Anti-Virus Suite?

AVG Anti-Virus Suite 8.5 (check CNet reviews) had historically been a great free anti-virus suite. However, after November 30, 2009, AVG is only supporting their Version 9.0 as they push for additional revenues. No longer will they have the free suite available for personal use.

If any of you can recommend another highly-rated free alternative that would be great.

Don’t worry. Get AVAST. It’s FREE and you can register for free for 1-yr. That is one of the best anti-virus, trojan remover around. We use it on all programming computers and it won’t slow down your computer either.

Just install it and let it do a BOOT SCAN when it asks. It does it once, takes about 20 min. but it never rescans again because it monitors in the background.
    Here is the link

AVG does not make the free version easy to find, but it appears AVG 9.0 is still available for free here.

i’m using avast home edition . The new version has been released on their website. It s a freeware. You can register yourself on the avast website to recive the registration key . They provide timely updates (small in size, ie. In kb’s. Which s usefull for people with limited internet plans ). It s fully legal n it generates a virus recovery database to report avast about the new viruses .
To detect n delete malwares on your comp use malware bytes . Another free software . N a powerfull tool to clean your comp of malwares. I use these softwares myself .

All of the following anti virus programs are free for personal use. All work very well, but my personal favorite is “Avast”.

Only run one anti virus program to avoid conflicts.

It’s difficult for a relative newcomer like VIPRE to introduce a brand-new version of antivirus software into this very competitive field.

But VIPRE is no ordinary antivirus.

And Sunbelt Software, makers of VIPRE, is no ordinary company.

With this release of VIPRE, Sunbelt has managed to pack a mighty blow against viruses, spyware, and all forms of malware in one powerful punch.

Not only has VIPRE Antivirus + Antispyware come out of the corner swinging, but they’ve done it with the grace and expertise consumers demand from antivirus software.

It’s easy to install, easy to use, and is the lightest running antivirus application we’ve ever seen.

Really, this should come as no surprise since Sunbelt, founded in 1994, has a track record of producing award-winning programs for Windows.

With their latest release of VIPRE Antivirus + Antispyware, Sunbelt Software is getting rave reviews just about everywhere you look.

Among other things, we wanted to know:
Does it hold up against the powerful malware foes out there today?
Can it really run that light and still be that potent?

    In a word: yes.

After reviewing VIPRE, it easily captured the lead as the best antivirus software of 2009. Read our full comparison and review to find out why.

If you’re still not sure, you are welcome to try out our FREE trial for fifteen days, inclusive with all features.

Avg is being replaced with 9.0.
    It installs over 8.5.
If you look around in there, you will find the directions.

You download the file, from in there, to your desk top.Save it to the desk top.

If you get messeges, like I did 3 times, like can not find the internet, keep trying.
I got a pop up for me to download an avg file to download 9.0.

This can be caused by a lot of people at the same time are downloading 9.0.
9.0 gives more protection than 8.5.

    Try Microsoft Security Essentials

It’s a free antivirus that uses the least resources in order to provide you with the essential software required to keep your computer secured. And it’s known to have one of the best if not the best detection rates for free antiviruses.

IF you don’t like it, you can also try Avira AntiVir or Avast.
